Coronation Arch A rare photo of the triumphal archway at West End, Hebden Bridge, erected to celebrate the Coronation of King George V in 1911. In this instance the view is down New Road past the junction with Holme Street on the right. The other side of the arch, looking up West End past T.K. Chemists on the corner of Bridge Gate, was considered more photogenic and is seen more often. The archway featured gas and electric lights and bore the rather unusual inscription “Wake up England.” ALGC Code no 015AL4 . Read the full story in Milltown Memories, issue 11.
