Class of WW1 at Roomfield

In the early years boys and girls at Roomfield Board School, Todmorden, were taught separately until the age of 12. By then many began working as half-timers at local mills, attending school in the morning one week and afternoons the next. The children also played in separate playgrounds.

The date of the photo, above, is probably around the time of the First World War. Kindly provided by Mrs Dorothy Smith, of Dean Royd, Walsden, the little girl, second left on the back row is her mother, Doris Horsfall, while the little girl, first left on the middle row, is Doris( older sister, Agnes.
